Side-Blotched Lizards Dressed by Mother

Here's an unusual finding. Side-blotched lizard females are able, during pregnancy, to secrete certain hormones that directly affect the pattern of blotching in their offspring. The babies will end up with either stripes or blotching, depending on how many specific colored throats (orange, yellow, or blue) the mother notices among males in her immediate social grouping.
