Iowa Copperhead Bite
A Fort Madison, Iowa, man was bitten by a copperhead while moving firewood. His swollen hand was treated at the hospital. Iowa DNR states that copperheads are very rare in that state. (News source.)

Too bad about the bite. It is unfortunate that man and animal came into contact with one another. Equally bad is the fact that the man killed the snake. Many people do not realize that snakes of all kinds are protected in Iowa by law due to declining populations.
