Gharials are now considered critically endangered in India, as populations diminish in response to development on the rivers. (News source.)

As i came across an article on Gharials, stating film makers could approach them even when they were quite close to them, if we can get a fresh carcass or a diseased dying Gharial into our department i,e. Department of Wildlife Health and Management, Jabalpur, M.P., I think it is quite possible for us to detect the exact cause of death. With a putrefied carcass disease diagnosis is not possible, the underlying fact being that the dying reptiles sink inside the water when dead and rise to the surface only when putrefactive changes are almost completed. So the above approach is suggested and should be worked over.
