British Columbia Cobra Bite

A Surrey, B.C., man was bitten by his pet cobra, and may lose a finger (or a hand). Hospital doesn't want to administer antivenom yet. (And, correctly refuses to give the home-made "antivenom" concoction a friend sent to the keeper.) (News source.)

I saw this man interviewed on B.C. tv: Wouldn't you inventory your own anti-venom kit with your own doctor if you are involved with handling exotics? He inferred that it was societies (i.e. the hospitals) problem to be prepared for this. How many Cobras are in B.C.? And apparently your anti-venom has to be "species specific"? He's lucky he lived but doesn't seem to have learned anything. I'd also like to know if my neighbor is "maintaining" anything interesting next door! Love livestock but let's be responsible.
